Every fertility journey is unique - no one knows what the future will bring - that’s what makes life so difficult and yet so exciting.

Welcome to Roo’s Rainbow.  My name is Alanna and in 2013 my husband David and I decided we wanted to start a family, and so began our fertility journey. The next three years were filled with the darkest moments and the greatest joys of my life.

After two miscarriages, we were pregnant for a third time and part way through our second trimester a fetal MRI confirmed our growing baby had a condition that was not conducive with life. We were heartbroken, and on December 19, 2014 our son Roo Emmanuel fleeted through this world.

We decided to try one more time and our greatest joy, Josephine Moon, was born at the end of 2015. We brought her home from the hospital on the anniversary of the night Roo was born: Josie is truly our rainbow baby. The following year we decided to continue our fertility journey with the hope of having a second child. After a miscarriage in 2017 we welcomed our second child, Vera Rain in the spring of 2018.

Aim for the moon. If you miss, you may hit a star.

Without rain, there would be no life.

Like many women, I often found our fertility journey to be lonely and isolating. Although infertility, fertility treatment, miscarriage and infant loss are common, they are often not discussed, even with close friends and family. I started Roo’s Rainbow with the intention of breaking the silence and empowering women throughout their fertility journey. My wish is that Roo’s Rainbow will bring hope, perspective and a sense of solidarity to women on their journey to fertility and family.
